20Something and Surviving

Durban- Leez’ Playground

My head is pounding, my tummy is rumbling and my mouth is dry… And No, it’s not a hangover. At least it shouldn’t be. Maybe its the fact that I havent had coffee this morning. Or a cigarette. Serious withdrawal.

Anyway I am recovering from a great and busy weekend. I was very proudly Durban and went to the Beach Africa festival they had on north beach. I was sadly disappointed as each year it seems to be getting worse but Joe Kools more than made up for it!! Great party and great people.

Sometimes I have mixed feelings about my Job. Sometimes being when the perks have dulled my sensibilities. Or the free liquor I get at functions. Having said this I was upset to have to get up at the crack of dawn to attend an event ahead of Saturdays race. This was okay and I comforted myself with the knowledge that I would not have to spend too long with fake people. What is it with people? Put on some expensive threads ( I’m still upset at the dent in the credit card) and they morph into pseudo bitches.

Anyway early afternoon was spent in the company of old high school friends who have finally tied the knot after too may years together. Their love was sickening. No- truly. Mom of the bride cried buckets as did everyone around me when they exchanged vows and I will admit to have a scratchy throat though it may have been form the Mid morning cocktails. It now cuts down the number of single high school buds that I have left. Is there anyone out there who does no want to be trapped for the rest of their lives?

Anywho…After the reception (I love green, but lime is over kill. Does age kill taste?) We sneaked off to an exclusive after party. Being friends with a budding designer ( C ) has its advantages and the helicopter pad at Virginia airport was rocking with the trendy people of SA. There is something about the salty, invigorating air wafting off from the sea that does something to me.
Finally Sunday afternoon I finally broke down and took my little godson who is incidentally named after me to watch a bunch of smelly animals suffer humiliation. Yes, folks, we went to the circus. I remember the first time going to the circus as a toddler yonkers ago and the excitement at getting to see real live animals. And they performed too!! The thought boggled my mind.

But even back then, in my sugar induced hyperactivity, I was not totally impressed. Maybe it was because the elephant and horses were vehicles of flatulence rather than entertaining menagerie but I was disappointed. Fast track to present and its still the same. Yes it’s gotten bigger and better but now my opinion is more centred on the atrocities these poor animals have to go through. Tainted entertainment.

Just a final question which may seem totally unrelated but isn’t. What, in today’s social climate, is regarded as being promiscuous? And how many sexual partners, before the age of 30, are regarded as being too many? Will explain tomorrow.
